Luc Anselin gave the 2017 Gerard Rushton Academic Excellence Lecture at the University of Iowa on April 14, 2017. His talk was entitled “LISA at 21.” It reviewed the evolution of the concept of a local indicator of spatial association since its presentation in Anselin’s 1995 article in Geographical Analysis. He also introduced some new concepts such as an in-depth interpretation of the Local Geary statistic and its multivariate extension. He demonstrated these as new features in the development version of the GeoDa software.
